The results of 2006 Memphis Open

After two days' competition we finished the 2006 Memphis Open Badminton tournament on June 11, 2006. Olemiss Badminton Club brought back 10 trophies. The following is the list of our winners:

Champions: Men's double ---- Xiaobo Chao/Azad
Women's double --- Ping Zhang/Lingzhi Sun

Runners-up: Men's single --- Xiaobo Chao
Women's single --- Podjanee

Consolation champions: Men's double ---- Zhiguo He/Wei Wei
Mixed doble --- Zhiguo He/ Ping Zhang

This is the first time for our club to win champion in the recent three Memphis Open tournaments. The achievement of Men's double is the breakthrough. Chao/Azad had two extremely tough games in the semi-final and final, and finally defeated two strongest teams in Memphis. Our No.1 women's double team is still undefeatable. Our second women's double team almost advanced to final and our women's single almost crowned the champion.

All players did a great job, and we greatly appreciate for their participation. Many thanks to Mr. Chew, who organized the tournament. Our special thanks go to the Campus recreation for their sponsorship for our club in the tournament, and great help in many ways.

Olemiss Badminton Club party

The badminton club arranged a dinner party to celebrate the achievement of club players in the recent Memphis tournament. The party was held in the University of Mississippi Students Union on June 29th, 2003. Most of the members and their families or friends attended the party. The party commenced with a speech from the president of the club. In her speech she described the experiences during the tournament and also introduced and commended members who were awarded trophies. The trophies were displayed, interesting moments were photographed and a variety of delicious foods were served. Most of the food items were prepared by culinarily talented and generous members of the club.

During the tournament most games were videotaped by the club officials. During the party everybody enjoyed watching those recorded games. By watching the performance of the top players from Memphis and ourselves, all of the club members got a great opportunity to evaluate their individual strengths and weaknesses. This was an extremely useful exercise, as it served to target future training.
