Speaker: Dr. David T. Beito of the Department of History at the University of Alabama.
Topic: "Historical Alternatives to State-Sponsored Medical and Social Insurance Policies."
Summary: In his presentation, Dr. Beito discussed his book From Mutual Aid to the Welfare State: Fraternal Societies and Social Services, 1890-1967 and the crucial role fraternal organizations played in providing social and medical insurance before the advent of the New Deal and Great Society social welfare programs.
