Coaches vs. Cancer
Coaches v. Cancer is a
national campaign that raises money for cancer research via college
basketball programs throughout the nation. Ole Miss is a participant in
this program. The way we raise money is to pass out three-point cards
before every home game to any fan who will take one. On the back of the
card is a form that asks for donations to Coaches v. Cancer. Fans can
donate a flat dollar amount ($20 for example) or can choose to pledge
from anywhere from $0.05 to as much as they can afford for every
three-point shot the Rebels make during the season.
The way Golden Key is involved is that we are the volunteers to pass out
those three-point cards. About an hour before the game, about six of us
meet to pass out the cards right up until tip-off time. Volunteers are
then free to leave, or they can just enjoy the game. Last year Ole Miss
raised over $10,000 for Coaches v. Cancer. This year our goal is $15,000.
The success of this program relies heavily on the support that Golden
Key members provide at each of the games.
