India Nite

Sanskriti2005 was organised by the India Association on April the 16th 2005 at the Ford Center. The show was a tremendous success, attracting a full house. The audience was treated to a dazzling display of song, dance and fashion from India. The music depicted the various cultural aspects of India, right from Bharathnatyam to maharashtrian lehzeem to the exquisite traditional fashion of India. An integral part of the show was the Indian cuisine on display which served to make Sanskriti 2005 a truly Indian experience.
Screening of Indian films
The India Association screened a number of movies during the course of the year. Prominent among the movies that were screened were Filhaal, Monsoon Wedding and Company. These screenings are now a regular feature of India Association activities and are quite popular among the Association members.
Dance Parties
The India Association held one dance parties during the course of the year. These dance parties are a means of having a gettogether of all the members and also a time and a place for enjoying themselves to the fullest. This dance party was held in the Fall of 2004 at the University Union ballroom. This party served as an occasion for all the members, new as well as old, to get to know each other.
Diwali Night
One of the most important events organized by India Association every year. As per tradition there was potluck. There was great food encouraged by keeping prizes for the best dish. After dinner, there was organized "Antakshari Competition" . A great way to avoid too much of homesickness during the most important festival for Indians.
Cricket Tournament
We had a six a side tennis ball cricket tournament. The day was rather cold with temperatures around 1to 4 degree Celsius, but still the turn out was great with eight teams competing.
Student Pick-up
We make arrangements to have new students arrive from India, picked up at the Memphis airport at the beginning of every semester.
