Arcenio J. Advincula
was born January 25, 1938, in Juneau, Alaska. After WW 2, in late 1945,
he moved to Anchorage Alaska. He began training in Filipino escrima and
combat judo from two friends of his father, Pete Rado and Tony Navarro.
Both who were close combat instructors in the Philippine Scouts (Philippine
Army) prior to WW 2. Advincula enlisted into the United States Marine Corps
in 1957 and began training in Isshin-ryu karate on Okinawa in late November
1958 from its founder, Tatsuo Shimabuku. During several tours of Marine
Corps duty on Okinawa, Advincula continued his training in Isshin-ryu karate
and other styles. Advincula
co-founded the Isshinkai with Kensho Tokumura in 1997 on Okinawa. The
Isshinkai is dedicated to the teachings and preserving of Isshin-ryu karate
and kobudo as taught by its founder, Tatsuo Shimabuku. Advincula is the
Chief Instructor (Kancho) of the Isshinkai. |
