In 1996 Sensei Arcenio J. Advincula accepted David Knight as an Isshin-ryu karate student. Under Sensei Advincula’s direct tutelage, David was promoted to Godan in Isshin-ryu karate, and has also trained in Hindiandi Gung Fu, Ryu Kon Kai Kobudo and ACE Escrima from Sensei Advincula. Because of frequent moves in the U.S. Army, LTC Knight does not operate a commercial dojo but does train students privately.

David Knight was promoted and certified to 5th Degree Black Belt, at the Honbu dojo, in Oceanside, California by Sensei A. J. Advincula on October 10, 2004 and has been certified and given a Shihan (Renshi) teaching certificate to teach the following Isshin-ryu subjects and concepts: Isshin-ryu Kihon, Kotekitai, all Isshin-ryu Karate Kata, Tatsuo Kumite, Kata Kumite and all Isshin-ryu Kobudo Kihon and Kata.
