Robert Safreed

Robert B. Safreed was born May 4, 1940
in Albion, Michigan. He attended Michigan State University where, in 1960,
he began training in Shotokan Karate and combat Judo under Police Defensive
Tactics instructor, Leslie Dyer. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in December
1961. He began his Isshin-ryu training in January 1963 under Tatsuo Shimabuku.
Upon departing Okinawa in March 1964, Master Shimabuku told him to find
U.S. Marine A.J. Advincula and continue his Isshin-ryu training under Advincula.
Safreed adheres to the teachings of Tatsuo Shimabuku as a member and follower
of the Isshinkai.
