LAMBDA SIGMA SOCIETY

PURPOSE

Since 1981, when Lambda Sigma was admitted to the Association of College Honor societies, it has been a prestigious national honor society for sophomore men and women dedicated to the purpose of fostering leadership, scholarship, fellowship, and the spirit of service among college students.

All members within the group are challenged to the utmost to fulfill his or her own intellectual and leadership potential.  Membership in Lambda Sigma Society is not merely recognition for freshman accomplishment, but is a challenge to serve throughout one=s college life and as an alumnus.

BENEFITS

1.         Students are able to attend regional and national conferences.

2.         Service projects are planned and developed by students for your campus and community.

3.         The opportunity to have your best sophomores in one active campus organization while developing their leadership and intellectual skills.

4.         The opportunity to compete for a national scholarship.

5.         Reasonable initiation fees.

6.         Strong support from the National Board of Directors.

7.         Interaction with the surrounding community provides a sense of connectedness to the needs of society.

MEMBERSHIP

Active membership on any campus consists of not more than 50 students or 10% of the freshman class, whichever is lower.  Candidates for membership shall be those freshmen who have attained a 3.35 GPA at the time of election, and who have shown evidence of leadership during their freshman year.  Freshmen who meet these qualifications are eligible in the spring following completion of at least one academic term.  Members are chosen in the spring and are asked to pay a one-time $60 initiation fee.  Members become actives in Lambda Sigma during their sophomore year.

All members are required to participate in a number of service projects which have their focus in giving back to the community and upholding the values of Lambda Sigma.  All members must also be able to attend biweekly meetings and participate actively with their respective committee.  Membership in Lambda Sigma requires a large commitment of time, but it is a great honor to be one of more than 40,000 current and alumni members across the nation.
