Instituted 140 years ago by William Forbes Stearns, the Law School’s first professor, the Moot Court Board helps prepare law students for the legal profession by providing practical experience and training in the preparation and conduct of cases in both trial and appellate courts.
The Moot Court Board, composed of students, is responsible for coordinating internal competitions, organizing annual competitions against Mississippi College of Law, and sending teams to external competitions at other law schools across the country.
Students are selected for membership on the Moot Court Board based upon their scholastic records and participation in an appellate competition in the fall or trial competition in the spring.
The Moot Court Board places high emphasis on competition. All members are required to compete in one competition during their tenure on the Board.
