Accommodations:

The MPA has reserved rooms at the Cabot Lodge Millsaps hotel, which you can learn about here:

http://www.cabotlodgemillsaps.com/

The Cabot Lodge has been recently renovated, and is the closest hotel to the University Medical Center. We have secured a discounted rate for rooms there despite the unavoidable football game schedule in Jackson.  Mention the MPA Philosophy conference to get the discount rate.  The discounted rate comes with a charge of $89 for the first night and $119 for the second night.  The price is the same whether the room is a single or a double.  The cutoff date for reserving a room at the discounted rate is 11/6/08.  If you are interested in sharing a room with another conference presenter, let me know, and I will see whether I can get people in touch with one another to setup such arrangements.

For those interested in a lovely but pricy bed and breakfast location, the Fairview Inn is well liked and is also close to the University Medical Center.  Here is its Web site:

A variety of hotels are nearby, and can be found here:

Opportunities and Instructions for Submissions:

The original call for papers is here: Call for Papers, but the deadline has passed.

In academic year 2008-2009, the Mississippi Philosophical Association met in November, rather than in the spring.  The conference theme was Medical Ethics.  We offered awards of $250 each for the two strongest papers by students (undergraduate or graduate), as well as $100 travel grants for each presenter coming from out of town (except for student award winners).

Papers submitted for the conference should be prepared for blind review, with no identifying markings in the text of the paper.  We are only accepting emailed submissions.  In the subject line of your emails about the conference, please type MPA.  In the text of your email, please include the name of your paper, an approximate word count, and if interested, your eligibility and request to be considered for the graduate student awards (Clarification of original CFP: all traveling presenters will be offered the travel grants, except the student award winners).  Papers should be no longer than 3,000 words.
