In March, MSA had contributed RM 5000 to the New Era College to aid in setting up a loan for potential students of the college.
The RM 5000 contribution was made by MSA as a gesture of goodwill and support
for fellow Malaysians facing financial difficulties attempting to further their education.
The funds were raised by MSA members working in concession stands at basketball games held at the university. The fund
raising was accomplished through about two semesters or 6 months of selling drinks, hot dogs, popcorns, and candies for
a food services company contracted by the university.
New Era College will handle the contribution as a loan awarded to
students who excel in their secondary education on a need basis and will provide sufficient funding for one year of
education at New Era. Diploma courses offered typically require two years and ranges from studies in information
technology and Chinese language to business administration and journalism.
Currently, funds are still being raised
among the MSA alumni from the University of Mississippi to obtain another RM 5000 to completely support a student for
the whole duration of the course.
