Road Trips

Regional Convention
By: Tricia Broyles

On April 7th, 8th, and 9th, the Alpha Epsilon Chapter from the University of Mississippi attended the Phi Delta Chi Annual regional convention in Houston, Texas. The Beta Omicron chapter at Texas Southern University hosted this convention. Beta Omicron did a wonderful job and put a lot of hard work into planning for the weekend. Dre Platz, Brielle Burres, Kathy Lindsey, Brian Kendrick, Sharon Groat and Tricia Broyles attended the meeting. We are such a small chapter, and being able to take six people to the convention is a major step for the Alpha Epsilon Chapter. Once we arrived in Houston, we checked into our hotel, and then ate a late supper at a Mexican restaurant. Once we got back to our room, some of us had a take home test to work on, so we relaxed in our hotel room.

Bright and early, on Saturday morning, we went down to the workshops. Our chapter learned so much. Being such a small group, we went to the workshops that we thought would benefit us the most. We learned some recruiting tips, and solved some membership problems. Overall, we were able to leave that afternoon with a lot of things to bring home to our fellow brothers.

Saturday night consisted of a banquet and a dance. Awards were given, and great thanks went to Beta Omicron for such a wonderful weekend. We went back to our rooms to finish the exam and other homework we had to do. A few of us went out with some people from other chapters to see what "downtown" Houston was like. A few more stayed at the hotel and enjoyed the relaxation after a long day.

We met the most awesome people at Regionals. They were so incredibly nice and warm. They showed us what brotherhood was all about. We had never met these people before, yet it felt like we had known them forever. Everyone was concerned about other chapters, and tried to give advice or praise when needed. The new regional correspondent was elected at the formal meeting on Sunday. The weather was great for the whole weekend. Overall, we had a wonderful time and hated to leave.

The convention came to an end around noon on Sunday. Our chapter went over to Astroworld, since our plane wasn't scheduled to leave until 8:30 that evening. By the time we made it to the airport, we were all exhausted, some of us were still trying to finish up the homework, but the rest of us couldn't stop talking about what we learned in the workshops. I can't wait until the national convention when we get to see everyone again, and tell them about the progress we will have made by then
