Our Philanthropy
Phi Mu's founders felt so
strongly about philanthropic activities that the first line in the Phi
Mu Creed reads, "To lend to those
less fortunate a helping hand." These words are not just clever
prose, they are a guiding principle for Phi Mus everywhere. The
tradition is carried on today in many chapter activities.
Phi Mu is the only sorority
to be a corporate sponsor of Children's Miracle Network. Supporting
170 Children's Miracle Network hospitals nationwide, Phi Mu has raised
over $7 million since 1986, improving the quality of life for children
everywhere. The Alpha Delta chapter of Phi Mu works especially
hard to raise money for this philanthropy. Alpha Delta is in the top
five fundraising chapters nationwide, raising more than $30,000 last
year.
Phi Mu Cares for Kids
Alpha Delta’s chosen hospital is LeBonheur
Children’s Hospital of Memphis, Tennessee. Each year our chapter
visits the children to read books, take gifts, or provide entertainment.
Volunteers spend time taking calls during the telethon, as well as being
involved locally with the planning of the telethon.
The
Phi Mu Fountain
The Alpha Delta Chapter of Phi Mu
celebrated 75 years of being at Ole Miss by
giving a centerpiece for the new quadrangle at the University of
Mississippi, between the J.D. Williams Library and the Paris-Yates Chapel.
At the center of the quadrangle is the Phi Mu
Fountain. Not only was the fountain donated by the alumnae and friends
of Phi Mu’s Alpha Delta chapter, but an endowment fund for its
maintenance was also established.
Mr. Valentine
The Mr. Valentine event is always fun! Each Greek organization as well as other
campus organizations are given the opportunity to sponsor a
“charming” male student for this pageant.
The Phi Mus at Ole Miss
also participate in other philanthropic activities throughout the year
such as sending care packages to the soldiers, collecting items for the
Oxford Animal Shelter and assisting other Sororities and Fraternities
with their philanthropic activities.
