FINANCES

1)  Q.    How does the financial picture change when entering the professional program (P-5 and
             P-6 years)?

     A.    The main differences come about because you are no longer an undergraduate student
but a professional student (in essence, a graduate student).  The differences are:
             i)   Most free money (scholarships, grants) through the University financial aid office no
longer apply.  Scholarships through the School of Pharmacy may still apply.
ii)  Stafford Loan amounts you qualify for increase.
iii) Health Professions Loan still applies but Ole Miss has very little money in that fund
                  currently.
iv) FOR THOSE WITH WAIVER OF OUT-OF-STATE TUITION AS AN
UNDERGRADUATE, YOU MAY LOSE YOUR WAIVER AS A
PROFESSIONAL STUDENT!  A WAY AROUND THIS IS TO BECOME A
MISSISSIPPI RESIDENT (OBTAIN A MISSISSIPPI DRIVER'S LICENSE
AND LICENSE PLATE IF YOU OWN YOUR CAR) BEFORE THE START
OF THE P-4 YEAR.  A YEAR OF RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED FOR THE
UNIVERSITY TO GIVE YOU IN-STATE TUITION.
             v)  You will have to pay tuition for the summer semester between the P-5 and P-6 years
                  because rotations begin in June.
vi) Activity Fee:  You do NOT pay the Oxford campus activity fee.  You will pay the
activity fee that the UMC students pay.  This will give you the rights to go to the
UMC parties and use the UMC student union.  This activity fee will be assessed in
                  the fifth and sixth years.

HOUSING

1)  Q.    I am about to move to Oxford, and I know nothing about the area.  Please recommend
some places to live and some places to stay away from.

     A.    Instead of listing the rental properties as good or bad, we will just list evaluations from
those who have lived there and let you decide what to do with that information.  Please
note that the following evaluations of rental properties are OPINIONS of the tenants at
those locations and not necessarily the opinion of the Rho Chi Society, the School of
Pharmacy, or the University of Mississippi.

             i)  Kudzu Cove -- Oxford, County Road 3069
                 Owner/Landlord -- Mickey Babb
2- bedroom 2-bath houses.  Very quiet location.  2.5 miles from campus off of South
Lamar.  Houses are in good repair.  Prices are fair and are a real bargain for what
you get.  Landlord is very cooperative and good to work with -- makes repairs
promptly.  Highly recommended for those wanting a nice, quiet place to live.
Families live here so it is not a place for partiers.

ii) Davis Duplexes -- Oxford, Anchorage Road
                 Owner/Landlord -- James Davis
Older duplex units and some newer houses.  Relatively inexpensive.  Units are not
highest quality.  Owner is very, very, very difficult to work with and does not always
make repairs in a timely fashion.  This area can be very loud at times.  Breakins have
                 occurred here during holiday periods.
