Announcements:
- The January MASCO meeting will be held in Jackson on January 18th at either IHL or Jackson State, in order to allow MASCO members to meet with the state legislators. Anyone interested in attending is welcome to go with Sherry Wall.
- President Sherry Wall thanked Dr. Robert Khayat for treating all staff equally when the University was closed early for Christmas holidays. All staff were allowed to leave early, or were given an equal amount of time off at a later date. We thank Dr. Khayat for his consideration.
- Sherry thanked Joni Camp for coordinating the Exam Breakfast for the students in December. If the sponsors are agreeable, we will have another breakfast during exams in May.
Committee Reports:
- Staff Development Textbook Scholarship Committee: Janea McDonald asked Sherry Wall if a fund had been set up yet. Sherry stated not yet; it was her understanding that the fund would be available for summer school 2001 requests. Sherry stated that she had been contacted by someone in the Career Center to see whether the Staff Council would be interested in having a used textbook center where all faculty/staff could place textbooks that could be checked out for a semester. After general discussion, the council decided that the overhead in maintaining this type of center might be more than we can handle at this point.
- Concerns Committee: Buddy Kahler reported that he had no new concerns.
- Staff Events Standing Committee: This University standing committee has not met yet. This is the new committee that has been given the responsibility to plan and organize staff appreciation activities. Clay Jones was appointed chair of this committee by Dr. Khayat.
- Member Election Committee: Buddy Kahler reported that his committee has not met yet. New council members are expected to begin their 3-year term at the March 2001 meeting.
- Outstanding Staff Member Committee: Denise Knighton volunteered to be chair of this committee. Other volunteers include Mary Chrestman, Joni Camp, and Jonnie Manning.
The February meeting is scheduled for February 7th, at 2:30 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned.
