INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS FOR 2002-2003:

Some encouraging words from our President Buddy Kahler:
"I want to recognize all the Committees and their Chairs who helped to coordinate Staff Appreciation Day. Also, congratulations to the winners of all Staff EEO categories and to the Outstanding Staff Member. Everyone did an excellent job. I have learned a lot this year as President of Staff Council and I hope to pass along the knowledge and support to our President-Elect, Tony Seaman. Remember to always ask questions and never be afraid to ask them, the worst thing that could be said is, "NO." To all members of Staff Council, continue to represent your constituents. You have all performed a job well done."

President-Elect, Tony Seaman will take the stand as President of Staff Council 2002-2003 at the July meeting. Words from Tony: "As President of Staff Council, I expect a challenging year. I will try to communicate with all on campus and attempt to continue the process already made by our past council. A lot of effort goes into being President and appreciation goes out to Buddy Kahler and Past-President, Sherry Wall for their outstanding leadership. "

CONCERNS:

  1. Question: What was the status on the Portability Program, reciprocal agreement between Universities?
Answer: To our knowledge, nothing has been done as of now. It will be brought up at the next MASCO meeting.
  2. Question: Can anything be done about paychecks not being in the mail on payday for employees who do not have automatic direct deposit?
Answer: Coming from a non-official standpoint, one way is to open up a checking account to get automatic direct deposit. The University has nothing to do with how the mail gets handled. The US Postal regulations require mail to go through Memphis before being distributed in Oxford.
The University's Credit Union offers checking to all staff, faculty, and students of the University of Mississippi.
  3. Question: Is it possible that we can have an even amount of hours on our check every two weeks? We were paid for 72 hours for one pay period and the next pay period the check was for 88 hours.
Answer: It depends on how it falls during a pay period. We will have a representative from Human Resources or the administration involved with pay period decisions come as a guess speaker to a future meeting to tell us how our pay systems work.
3:00 p.m. Meeting adjourned.

/s/Buddy Kahler, President
/s/Tony Seaman, President-Elect
/s/Amanda Wood, Secretary
