A
Message from the President
There comes a time in life when
certain people, who have had a positive impact on you personally, move on to
new paths and will hopefully influence others as they have done for me. Such is
the case with the three members of Staff Council who can no longer serve due to
personal circumstances. Linda, Mark and Amanda, you will be missed. I know I
speak for many as I wish each of you great success in your future endeavors.
They say that behind every good
man there is a good woman. Our current secretary, Amanda, has been that to me.
She dedicated many hours for Staff Council events, keeping the calendar,
reminding me of many small details (I tend to overlook), preparing the minutes
and most of all for always smiling. Thanks Amanda.
Thanksgiving is fast approaching
and we should be reminded of all the many good things we have going for us. We
work in a great public university, work with great faculty and staff and have
the best students anywhere. Please remember those less fortunate and assist
however you are best able to. Remember, a smile and encouraging words go a long
way to giving hope to someone who is not so fortunate. Happy Thanksgiving!

2:35pm. Welcome was made by
President Tony Seaman. Today’s guest
speaker was Eddie Crawford, Senior Associate Athletic Director. Mr. Crawford was a star performer for the
Rebels in football, basketball, and baseball from 1954 to 1956. He’s been with the University of
Mississippi’s staff since 1962. He has
assisted in the additions of the West Side and East Side of the
Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium, and has assisted in closing in the South End Zone of
the Stadium. In the near future, Mr.
Crawford hopes to assist in closing in the North End Zone, as well.
Today, Mr. Crawford has graciously
given the Staff Council a grand tour of the recently finished South End Zone
section of the stadium. This newly
built section hosts 27 suites, including a new located suite for the
Chancellor. The Club level holds almost twice as much as the East and West Side
and has more amenities including 1700 seats outside the upper levels. All food is cooked and catered by Boston
Concessions. The food is prepared for
17,000 people throughout the upper levels of the East, West and South End
Zone. The Stadium now holds a little
over 60,000 people with 4 elevators to service the South End Zone and 2
elevators to service on the top level.
There is a large first aid station and a jail station, with 4 cells on
the bottom level of the South End Zone. The concession stands are twice as wide
and opens 12 windows on the lower level of South End Zone to better serve Rebel
fans.
President Tony Seaman thanked Mr.
Crawford for the marvelous tour and for his information. The business meeting followed.
OCTOBER MINUTES: Approved with no corrections.
President Tony Seaman wanted to
express his appreciation to Amanda Wood and others who put together the October
Minutes and for getting the information from Human Resources out to the staff
before the Open Enrollment dates.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Approved with no corrections.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS:
Jeannette Wells made a suggestion
that for the next Staff Council meeting, which is December 4, 2002 at 2:30
p.m., we have a gift exchange. It was
approved unanimously that next meeting would be a more relaxed event allowing
members to get to know each other better. Gifts for the exchange should be
limited to $5.00 and wrapped. If the gift is gender specific, please note that.
The gifts will be given a number and members will draw numbers for the
exchange. Great idea Jeannette!
President Tony Seaman wanted to
express his gratitude to those staff members who have served diligently as members
of Staff Council but find they cannot complete their term and can no longer
serve for various reasons. These members are Linda Sallis, Mark Shows, and
Amanda Wood. Sincere appreciation goes
out to them for their time, effort, energy and support of our Staff Council.
The process for replacing these
vacating members is outlined in the by-laws and the next available person in
each category will be asked to serve.
A note from the Secretary
I am taking this opportunity to
express my sincere appreciation for you allowing me to represent EEO category 4
and to represent the council as Secretary during my 2-year term with Staff
Council. I have learned a great deal
about the University and have met many outstanding staff members of this great
Institution of Higher Learning. I know
I have been fortunate to have been associated with all the members who serve on
Staff Council. Thank you for your
support. Sincerely, Amanda Wood
Meeting adjourned. 3:30pm.
