A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

This year has zoomed by and it is now time to turn the presidents gavel over to Joni Camp. She is well prepared and energized to lead us as our Staff Council President. Please give Joni the same outstanding support and encouragement you have given me throughout my tenure. As I leave office I want to take the time to thank all the people who have made significant contributions to our staff council. Firstly, to ALL staff council members who have given their time, effort, energy and input to being the voice of their respective EEO categories and a link to our administration. To the S/C officers and executive board members Joni, Shannon, and Buddy a sincere thanks for all your help. To the incoming officers Joni, Mary, Rachel, Cathy and Melissa, thank you in advance for your leadership and a grateful welcome. To all those departments and department heads who allow our membership to take time from their busy work schedule to attend our meetings and functions. To our university administrators for listening and responding. To all those who contributed gifts and helped with staff appreciation day 2003. To all who helped with the exam breakfasts, meet and greet days, blood drives, awards day and book scholarship program. Thanks especially to the University Foundation for their continued support and financial contributions. Finally, to all the university staff who have given so much to this institution and for their contributions that make us a great public university but most of all, for making this a great place to work. Ole Miss is the place to be.

With much gratitude, I remain your servant, Tony.

·    President Seaman reported on the MASCO meeting that was held earlier this month at the IHL building in Jackson.  MASCO is writing a letter to the IHL Board on behalf of all Staff Council representatives expressing concerns on health insurance and asking the IHL Board to be creative in their thinking when coming up with solutions.  President Seaman stated that Ole Miss is the only institution in Mississippi to offer wellness checkups to their staff.  Another topic of discussion was portability of scholarships, which would allow an employee’s child to attend another Mississippi university that offers a field of study that Ole Miss does not.  MASCO will attend the next IHL Board meeting on July 17th then have their regularly scheduled meeting afterwards.

·    President Seaman recognized the new Staff Council Officers whose terms will begin in July.  Joni Camp, incoming President, recognized and thanked outgoing President Tony Seaman for all his work and dedication to Staff Council and to Ole Miss.
