Staff Council Minutes

January 10, 2007

 

Present: James Akey, Dotty Baker, Debbie Binkley, Debbie Bishop, Robert Bishop, Rachel Bost, Brenda Brannan, Joey Brent, Johnette Carwyle,  Kim Chrestman, Kevin Cozart, Corrie Free, Nina Jones, Ron Kitchens, Ann Mason, Priscilla Melton, Ardessa Minor, Patti Mooney, Jennifer Pardoe, Deetra Wiley, Randall Pinion, Laurie Richlovsky, Patricia Stewart, Benita Whitehorn

Meeting convened.   Speaker, Mr. Clay Jones, Director of Human Resources introduced.

 

Clay spoke about these changes in HR processes:

*           Check stubs for bank deposits now online only.

*           SS#s being/have been replaced on all paperwork by SAP number Working with health care vendors to use SAP numbers, also.

*           Health Insurance Plan is run by State of MS. Not much HR can change about the processes determined by the State.

*           Changes this year:

*  Wellness benefit offering $50 increase if you go online to fill out a health risk assessment at http://knowyourbenefits.dfa.state.ms.us/.

*  No longer do employees have to pay extra for well baby care.

*           Surveys by staff contained mostly good comments. Most negative comments were directed at insurance.

*           Early Bird Session included in Orientation.

*           For academic departments can now scan transcripts.

*           Reminders:

* Employees have until March 15 to purchase and April 15 to process reimbursement forms for  Flexible Spending Accounts.

* W2s will be mailed next week.

* HR on the Road - Training processes departments should take part

 in, i.e., Fish, Give em the Pickle, etc.

*           Minimum Wage UM leading way in SEC schools.

*           Clay offered HRs assistance in Staff Council in New Hire Brunches.

 


Other Business:

Motion passed to approve November minutes

Financial Report approved

New Hire Brunch was successful

Exam Breakfast successful

Thanksgiving Food Baskets: 291 total

45% came from UM departments, based on urging from Staff Council

23 baskets were to Aramark employees

16 baskets went to Physical Plant employees

Langley Christmas Party successful

 

Committee Reports:

Recycling will meet in January

Alcohol Task Force meets once more before report is finalized

PR Committee moved suggestion box to Physical Plant

Staff Appreciation Committee meeting in February

Elections Committee meeting this week to finalize process. Shellie Harrison

stepped down as chair. Rachel Bost, Nina Jones, Dotty Baker, and Debbie

 Binkley will replace Shellie

Kevin Cozart offered to chair the Graduation Committee

Textbook Committee bringing work up-to-date

Webmaster updating web page   

 

Other items:

*           Absenteeism: By-laws state members can only miss 6 meetings. This is half

of each years meetings

*           Office Depot offers 10% discount to UM employees who register their credit card at http://www.oxfordms.com.

*           Ron asked for a wish list of ideas about what would benefit UM staff

*           To maintain EEO 6 & 7 representation, it may be necessary to change SC meeting time

*           Resignations

            NOTE: For the record, Emily Ratliff and David Blackmarr resigned their positions

            in December, 2006.

*           Johnette awarded Member of the Month, for outstanding service  

*           Concerns about physical plant vehicles parked in front of fire hydrants were raised
