Minutes of the Meeting March 07, 2007 Union 404b
Present: James Akey, Dotty Baker, Pam Barefield, Debbie Binkley, Rachel Bost, Brenda Brannan, Joey Brent, Johnette Carwyle, Kim Chrestman, Kevin Cozart, Chris Darwell, Corrie Free, Shellie Harrison, Lance Herrington, Gwen Hutchins, Sam Johnson, Ron Kitchens, Priscilla Melton, Ardessa Minor, Patti Mooney, Paula Park, Jay Plunk, Randall Pinion, Deborah Purnell, Laurie Richlovsky, Kim Dixon Russell, Patricia Stewart, Diane Tredway, Deetra Wiley and Timothy Woodard

Call to Order: President Ron Kitchens called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m.
President Kitchens introduced our guest speaker, Mary Harrington. Mary informed the Staff Council about the Faculty/Staff Campaign “ Momentum ”. Mary passed out fliers about the Breakfast Benefit that would be held on March 09, 2007. The proceeds from the Staff Momentum Campaign go toward deserving projects, including establishing a scholarship fund for the children of staff members.
Approval of Minutes: The February minutes were approved with no corrections.
Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was not available at this time.
Committee Reports:
Recycling Committee - Questionnaires for building Mayors
- Bring results back to Laurie or anyone else on staff council.
- Going to hand out and email questionnaires to staff council & building mayors.
Graduation Committee- did not meet but to plan to meet in April
Staff Appreciation Committee
- They are basically going to do what they did last year
- Going to send out a list of sub committees.
- Everyone needs to do his or her part in this activity.
Building & Grounds committee:
- Making a sub committee to look at process for building, planting, & renovations.
Athletic committee: met February 10th
- A main concern is getting & keeping Athletes that meet the University’s academic standards.
- The Fed Ex center should be completed in April. This center is a state of the art facility whose goals include helping the athletes fulfill their academic requirements.
Traffic & Parking Committee: met in January
- Talked about different ideas to make parking/traffic better
o Using shuttles
o Adding more parking spaces
Old Business:
Ardessa- addressed By-laws
- Need for revision
- Updates
- Article clarification
- Recommendations for revisions
Send all new members copies of the By-laws. Elected members already receive these
Tobacco at Ole Miss
- Chancellor asked if Faculty Senate, Staff Council & ASB would endorse a resolution that addresses tobacco use at Ole Miss.
- Chancellor is agreeable in helping the people who do smoke by providing free services and products to help them quit smoking.
- Several believe there should be a meeting where they should invite people who do smoke to inform them of what new rules might be implemented on campus, and let the smokers on campus voice their opinions on the matter.
- University Attorney is in the process of writing a draft to give to Staff Council, ASB & faculty/staff to address tobacco use at Ole Miss.
Alcohol Policy- Nothing new to report.
Kids College- This program is not available at this time.
New Business:
Traffic- Law/Sorority Lot; Double-parking situation.
Recognized the Staff member whose terms ended this year.

Announcements:
Chancellor Khayat will be the guest speaker at the next meeting.
Member of the Month- Jennifer Pardoe
Concerns:
M-Book
- Going to available in May for orientation
- Policy directory online will remain the official policy directory
- The actual M-Book will be limited
Johnette Carwyle will head up the committee on Staff discounts
- Will go to the businesses that give the student discounts to see if they will also give faculty/staff discounts.
The next meeting will be April 04, 2007 in the Union, room 404.
