Division of Student Life — Passion, Purpose, Service

Dear Ole Miss Students:

On behalf of the faculty, staff and administration of The University of Mississippi, it is my honor and pleasure to welcome you to this historic campus. We believe that we offer the perfect balance of the traditional university, state-of-the-art programs, an ideal college town and a unique community. Thomas Jefferson, the original architect of the American university, believed that great scholarship is best pursued in a beautiful, serene and historic environment.

Making the most of our natural beauty, we have enhanced and modernized our facilities and nurtured our grounds to provide one of the most inspiring educational settings in the nation. This orientation booklet provides information that will help you take full advantage of all that Ole Miss has to offer.

You are entering the university at perhaps the most exciting time in its history. We have much to celebrate: our classroom triumphs, expanding leadership role, revitalized campus, community spirit, commitment to the arts, our united pursuit of noble goals and our winning athletics spirit. The university is committed to constantly being at the forefront of social, technical and economic innovation.

We are at the peak of an academic renaissance, and our faculty and staff are anxious to assist you as you find your place here. The best measure of a university’s success is the caliber of its students. At Ole Miss, we attract very good students, but we graduate even better ones. Our advice to each of you is to get involved in the life of this campus, get to know the faculty and staff, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Keep our campus vibrant with your individuality and your youthful spirit.

We encourage you to read the campus newspaper; stay abreast of current opportunities and events; form opinions; and attend concerts, plays, art shows, readings, lectures and athletics events.

Finally, enjoy every moment of this wonderful time in your life.
