SERVICE LEARNING

In conjunction with our philosophy that service learning is critical to the college experience, we have partnered with four local charities in Oxford and will be asking you to make charitable donations to help support their cause. The charities are: The Pantry (our local food bank), Domestic Violence Project, The Red Cross, and The Literacy Council. Since we have 12 Orientation sessions over the summer (9 freshmen and 3 transfer sessions counting the ones in August) we’ve broken down the sessions like this:

Freshman Session 1 (May 30-31), Freshman 5 (June 12, 13) and Transfer Session 1 (May 30) will be supporting Domestic Violence Project– appropriate donations are “comfort kits" combs, hairbrushes, razors, shampoo, deodorant, facial soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, washcloths, and pocket tissue. Teddy bears for children are also requested.

Freshman Session 2 (June 1,2), Freshman 6 (June June 18,19) and Transfer 2 (June 20) will be supporting The Red Cross by helping with emergency “comfort kits" given to fire victims-combs, razors, shampoo, deodorant, facial soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, washcloths, and pocket tissue.

Freshman Session 3, (June 4, 5), Freshman 7 (June 22, 23) and Transfer 3 (August 21) will be supporting The Pantry of Oxford – appropriate donations include any non-perishable food items.

Freshman Session 4 (June 9, 10), Freshman 8 (June 25, 26) and Freshman 9 (August 21, 22) will be supporting The Literacy Council – appropriate donations include new books for children of any age.
