Research Interests

Dr. Stapp's work as a scholar and teacher educator focuses on the importance, impact, and role that wellness and physical activity have within the preK-8 classroom and school setting through the lens of teaching, learning, and community engagement. Fundamental to her teaching, scholarship, and service in education is how a multi and trans-disciplinary curriculum, grounded in wellness and physical activity integration can help shape the current trajectory of childhood obesity and sedentary behaviors among children and adolescents. She also aims to examine ways to impact educational programs and policy surrounding curriculum, teacher effectiveness, student, parent, and community engagement in education, and academic achievement in the preK-8 setting. Through her work she continually aims to answer the following questions: 1-What role does education play in promoting student wellness? 2-How can effective pedagogy, curriculum development, teacher professional development and advocacy aid in decreasing childhood obesity and sedentary behaviors, while simultaneously improving academic achievement, overall wellness and the learning environment in preK-8 classrooms?
