Brief Bio

Clifford A. Ochs is Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Mississippi. Dr. Ochs received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1991. He joined the faculty of the University of Mississippi in 1992. Dr. Ochs’ research is in the area of freshwater aquatic ecology. Broadly speaking, his research addresses questions regarding connections and interactions between plankton community composition and activities, and biogeochemical cycles involving nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon. Dr. Ochs has conducted research on numerous types of aquatic ecosystems of northern Mississippi including oxbow lakes, various wetlands, reservoirs, and flooded agricultural fields in the Mississippi Delta. However, his principal research site is the Lower Mississippi River and its associated floodplain lakes. Funding to support his research comes primarily from the National Science Foundation, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Department of Agriculture. Dr. Ochs teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in General Biology, Research Methods in Biology, Microbial Ecology, Ecosystems, and Limnology.
