Dr. Cook's research interests include elementary mathematics and closing the opportunity gap in elementary education.

Biography

Dr. Candies Winfun-Cook is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Teacher Education at the University of Mississippi (UM). She specializes in elementary mathematics. Prior to joining the UM family, Cook spent the last 15 years in the Oxford School District. She served as an elementary instructional math coach for four years, taught 5th grade math for ten years, and 6th grade math for one year. Preceding her time in the Oxford School District, Cook taught 3rd grade math at Quitman County Elementary School in Lambert, MS for four years. In 2021, she was awarded the Outstanding Doctoral Student in Elementary Education at the University of MS. She is a four-time graduate from the University of MS earning a B.A. in Elementary Education (2004), an M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction (2006), a Specialist degree in Special Education (2008), and a Ph.D. in Elementary Education (2022). Cook is a member of several math organizations both nationally and locally. She serves her community as a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She currently resides in Oxford with her husband, Jeremy.
