Instructional Assistant Professor of Finance

Biography

Dr. Ivonne A. Liebenberg is an Instructional Assistant Professor of Finance. She is originally from Chile and received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and master’s in finance from the University of Chile. She moved to the U.S. in 2001 and graduated with a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Georgia in 2006.

Prior to moving to the U.S., she taught Investments, Corporate Finance, and Derivatives at the University of Chile at the undergraduate level, in the MBA program, and for professional certificate programs. She also worked as a consultant in valuation projects and for banks. While obtaining her Ph.D. at the University of Georgia, she taught Corporate and Entrepreneurial Finance. After graduating in 2006, she and her husband moved to Oxford, MS to teach at the University of Mississippi. She currently teaches Business Finance, Intermediate Financial Management, Security Analysis and Portfolio Management, and Financial Statement Analysis at the Tupelo, Southaven, Booneville, and Grenada campuses. Dr. Liebenberg also taught Business Finance in the online MBA program.

Her areas of research include Cross-border Mergers and Acquisitions, Dividends, Co-Movement of Stock Prices, among others. Her studies have been published in the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Corporate Finance, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, and Risk Management and Insurance Review, among others. She was the recipient of the Outstanding Paper of the Year in 2011 for her publication in the Journal of Financial Economics.

Dr. Liebenberg serves as the faculty advisor for the Financiers Club at the Tupelo and Southaven campuses and as the faculty advisor for the CFA Research Challenge competition.
