Lou McPhail

Biography

Lou McPhail, a native of Oxford, earned his engineering degree from Ole Miss and was commissioned in the U.S. Navy through the college’s NROTC program.  After two tours overseas, which included combat as a Naval Aviator in Desert Storm, he completed an MBA at Webster University and received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of North Dakota.  Following graduation, Mr. McPhail practiced as a litigator and trial attorney for many years and founded the McPhail Law Firm in Bismarck, North Dakota.  In 2005, Lou began teaching business and criminal law at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, where he became a tenured professor and department chair.

Lou has been involved in several successful business ventures, including his family’s oil and gas company in North Dakota and Wyoming.  His passion for the law and teaching has helped students develop “real world” skills that go beyond classroom learning and help them become lifelong learners.  His goal has always been to see students succeed in any venture they attempt and to understand how to navigate the legal landscape of business. 

Mr. McPhail’s areas of interest have focused on legal issues relating to emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning. His hobbies include golf and occasionally taking apart his Tesla.
