The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Brief Bio

Pamela Lawhead, Associate Professor of Computer Science joined the university in 1982 as an instructor and in 1994 joined the ranks of the professorial staff. Her current research interests lie primarily in educational applications of the web and emerging technologies to the delivery of online distance education. Marrying her backgrounds in philosophy and computer science she has pursued interests of gender in science as well as the relationships between languages and programming. Her efforts in grant writing and applied research have resulted in successful proposals to multiple national agencies. She is the first recipient of the University’s Frist Award for outstanding service to students. She has authored multiple papers and lead international working groups on issues in computer science education. Her early interests in Web design and development have resulted in statewide and national awards for web design. Currently she is the Director of the Institute for Advanced Education in Geospatial Sciences, initially NASA funded, with a goal of creating and hosting of 30 online courses in Remote Sensing over the funded period of the grant. This project currently employs 7 students and five full time staff. . The research projects covered by this work includes research on file compression, 3-D visualization, Web-Database relationships, Web Security, Web/User interface and the use of emerging technologies. The project has funded the creation of an outline of a university level major in remote sensing. The project recently gained the approval and endorsement of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS).
