Dr. Bentley’s teaching and research interests include biostatistics, pharmacoepidemiology, patient-reported outcomes, and pharmaceutical marketing and patient behavior.

Research Interests

Dr. Bentley has conducted research projects in a variety of areas, including: patient-reported outcomes; medication use, misuse, and outcomes; pharmacoepidemiology; healthcare quality assessment; measurement of adherence to medications; and pharmaceutical marketing and patient behavior. His statistics research and teaching interests include longitudinal data analysis and statistical mediation and moderation analysis. He has been a member of many interdisciplinary research teams and consulted with numerous researchers concerning statistical analysis.

Biography

John P. Bentley is a Professor of Pharmacy Administration and the Director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. He previously served as the Program Coordinator for the UM’s Graduate Minor in Applied Statistics and Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Administration. In the pharmacy curriculum, Dr. Bentley has taught elements of research design, biostatistics, epidemiology, and drug literature evaluation. At the graduate level, he teaches several applied statistics courses, including general linear models, multivariate statistics, and elective courses focusing on longitudinal data analysis and principles of statistical mediation and moderation.

Dr. Bentley is a co-editor of two textbooks: 1) Principles of Research Design and Drug Literature Evaluation and 2) Student Handbook for Pharmacy Practice Research. He has published research in over 70 different journals and served on the MS or PhD committees of over 175 students from various disciplines. He is a Fellow of both American Pharmacists Association and the National Academies of Practice and is a recipient of the UM School Pharmacy’s Faculty Research Award, the UM Graduate School’s Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Mentoring Award, the UM Faculty Achievement Award for Outstanding Teaching and Scholarship, the UM Elsie M. Hood Outstanding Teacher Award, and the Outstanding Article of the Year Award for a paper published in Quality of Life Research.
