Biography

Tim Overton is an Instructional Assistant Professor of Marketing at the University of Mississippi. Mr. Overton has been teaching with Ole Miss since 2017, with primary teaching responsibilities through the regional campuses of Tupelo, Booneville, Grenada, and Southaven. Before working with Ole Miss, Mr. Overton spent over 30 years in the industrial chemical industry across various responsibilities, including analytical chemistry, regulatory compliance, financial analysis, industrial sales, quality consulting, various leadership and management positions, and building Lean Six Sigma infrastructure for cultural integration. Mr. Overton has received formal training in systems such as ISO 9001 and the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria. He has worked as a quality auditor for the Mississippi Quality Awards. Mr. Overton continues to work directly with organizations such as Toyota and Caterpillar, learning and applying the skills of the Toyota Production System (aka Lean Manufacturing) and Six Sigma methodologies. This work history has provided valuable real-world applications of theories discussed in the classroom. His research interests include Lean Manufacturing, Lean Six Sigma, simulation, analytics in analysis and decision-making, and Servant Leadership, especially as it applies to a Lean environment. Mr. Overton is a graduate of Ole Miss with a BBA, an MBA, and an MS in Operations Management from the University of Alabama. He is completing his DBA with Liberty University with an expected graduation date of 2024. The final research project focuses on improving the cultural integration of Lean Six Sigma philosophies within small-to-medium-sized manufacturing organizations.
