Welcome to the home page of The University of
Mississippi's Ronald E. McNair Program. This home page was completed totally by
the students participating in the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate
Achievement Summer Program and I take great pleasure in announcing that this
letter is my only contribution! At every opportunity I receive, I remind everyone
interested in this program of its intent. In my own words, the program's
purpose is to provide experiences and opportunities to individuals, prompting
them to obtain a doctoral degree and enter the professorate. This program
addresses the critical shortage of minorities holding the doctorate in almost
every field of study. As Director of this program, I take this purpose to heart. The experiences alluded to above will vary from
McNair Program to McNair Program. The uniqueness and strength of our program
resides with the participation and involvement of other state institutions. In
particular, the backbone of our program consists of students from Alcorn
State University,
Rust College,
Tougaloo College
and The University of Mississippi. Liaisons and mentors from these institutions
help us to attract the best and the brightest students to represent our
consortium. Although the program is administered by the Graduate
School, the real support base
represents a University-wide commitment to achieving its goals. The
Chancellor's Office, the Office of the Provost, and the Assistant Director,
collectively lend efforts to the program's success and make my job extremely
rewarding. The McNair Program is proven to change lives. We touch lives, and in
turn, our lives are touched. Nothing is more pleasurable than to see a timid,
but bright, student from Nowhere, Mississippi
participate in our program and become aware of the rewards of graduate study,
excited about the possibilities, and determined to attend Graduate
School because of our efforts. I
hope that you would continue to read about the program on this site, tell
others about it, and help us achieve our most noteworthy objectives. Thanks.
