Eligibility Requirements
The McNair Program helps prepare undergraduate students, not only to
succeed in graduate school, but to excel in all undertakings. Participation
in the McNair Program is competitive. To qualify, an applicant must meet
the following criteria:

Possess a STRONG interest in obtaining a Ph.D.

A U.S. citizen or permanent resident

The first in his or her family to earn a bachelor's
degree

Meet the income level established by the federal
government

Attained sophomore status
-
Hold a minimum 2.7 GPA overall and a 3.0 GPA in major
area of study

Graduating by August of 2009
-
Plans to enter a graduate program by the fall after completion of a bachelor’s degree
NOTE: One-third of the participants may come from underrepresented
groups: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, or Native Americans.
