Downsizing: Does It Work?
Abstract
America has been experiencing unprecedented job loss due to reengineering.
Reengineering is a general term used to describe a change in the structure
of a company. The type of reengineering activities that this study
will address is downsizing. Downsizing is a set of activities, on
the part of management of an organization, designed to improve organizational
efficiency, productivity, and/or competitiveness. This paper will
examine whether or not downsizing produces the intended results. The results
indicate that downsizing is more destructive than constructive.
