ABSTRACT

Nosocomial Infections: Hot Zones Found In Hospitals and the Efficacy of Aerosol Disinfectants on Specific Bacterial Strains

Nosocomial infections, infections that are the result of the contamination of patients after entering the hospital which usually end up in an extended hospital stay, is an issue that people need to be made aware of. We encounter these types of infections via direct or indirect transmission of bacteria, and it is possible to get infected by specific carriers. Because of the endless numbers of types of bacteria associated with nosocomial infections, vast measures have been taken to control microbial growth. The objective of my research was to determine the effectiveness of aerosol disinfectants on specific bacterial strains. Overall, the most difficult strain to kill was Serratia marcescens, and the most effective disinfectant spray was Clorox.
