ABSTRACT

The Power of Music: Two Current Controversies On the Role of Music in American Society


This research will provide a brief historical background on music’s power to influence human development and behavior. In addition, this research will point out controversies in Classical Greece and early Rock and Roll. This literary review identify will examine two current controversies in American Society: the Mozart Effect and Popular Music. This research will also explain the Mozart Effect and if it is applicable today as well as examine critics of this genre of music. 

 
Popular music is very influential among youth today. Much of the influence is considered negative. This research will discuss the negative views and explore methods to help youth overcome these influences. The focus of the research will revolve primarily on the genres of Rock, Rap, and Hip Hop.
