Convergence & the Emergence of Multimedia Journalism: A Case Study on the San Antonio Express-News

In an industry where fear of change is dominate but change is a part of the field’s history, a new concept is causing mayhem and fear. The word “convergence” has the power to strike fear in the most traditional journalist while offering inspiration to the “new-age” reporter interested in multimedia reporting. Convergence has its roots in the Telecommunication Act of 1996. According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the goal for the Act was to allow anyone to enter the communications industry and to give that person the fair opportunity to compete against other businesses in any market.
