ABSTRACT

Introduction of a Mutation in a Loop of Carboxylesterase

Carboxylesterases (CEs) are the enzymes responsible for the activation of pro-drugs and the detoxification of xenobiotics. They metabolize many different types of substrates such as carboxyl esters, carbamates, thioesters, and amides. We can infer from this that CEs have a large diversity of substrates. By introducing a single site mutation to this enzyme, we hope to create significant structural change in the enzyme as compared to the wild type CE.
