ABSTRACT

The Role of Socioeconomic Success: Examining African American's Political Behavior and Church Attendance

In today’s society, everyone wants his or her loved ones to succeed. Graduating from college, obtaining a job, or receiving a promotion to an executive level position are examples of socioeconomic success. Especially interesting, is how socioeconomic success affects African American’s political participation and lifestyle. This research examines three different aspects of this question: voting, policy positions and church attendance. This research examines the possible relationship between African Americans who achieve socioeconomic success, and their political behavior; as well as if their socioeconomic status (SES) changes their concern about government assisted legislation, or change their religious beliefs through church attendance.
