K-12 Related Activities

- Four MathCamps for the Summer of 2007. Please see our link for these camps.

- New mathematics courses for teachers that combine content and pedagogy. In line with the findings of the National Research Council in "Adding it Up", we are working on developing 2 to 3 graduate level courses that will combine (1) rich content knowledge in the areas of mathematics covered by the K-12 frameworks, and (2) observation and practice in diverse, best-practices pedagogical techniques to teach this content. The goal will be teachers who deeply understand the mathematics and are very confident, flexible and effective in their teaching of it.

- We have well-spoken undergraduate students from STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics) programs who are willing to visit middle schools and high schools in the northern half of the state to discuss careers that STEM degrees lead to. We are not trying to recruit, but rather inform. Feel free to email us if you are interested.

- We are gathering ideas for 1 to 2 day in-service modules for schools. We invite you to send ideas on the types of in-service activities that would be of benefit to teachers. We are looking at mini-courses that could be done on an in-service day, or a Saturday, or even during a week in the Summer.

- We are also gathering ideas for graduate courses for teachers that could be taught during the summer, on-line, or through other creative methods. We would like input on content, as well as on the best means of delivery.
