Summer MathCamps
The Center for Mathematics and Science at the University of Mississippi conducts MathCamp each summer for 5th – 8th graders who show the potential to be good math students. Each overnight camp lasts one week, and during the summer of 2009, CMSE will offer four sessions for new campers and two sessions for second-year participants.
This camp concentrates on Geometry and Measurement concepts, and will give the students great insight into the capabilities of technology. We hope to inspire a real interest for mathematics in the students, and to improve their performance in mathematics. We hope that the students will gain a better understanding of the STEM fields, mathematics in particular, and will be more confident in their own abilities.
Information is sent out to the schools in north Mississippi in January each year. Selections have already been made and invitations have been mailed for summer 2009.
