Our Mission:

The University of Mississippi, through a grant from the Hearin Foundation, has established the Center for Mathematics and Science Education (CMSE). The goal of the Center is to work with local, state, and federal agencies to develop a comprehensive program to improve mathematics and science education in Mississippi. The CMSE will foster sustained interaction between university science, mathematics and engineering departments and K-12 education, providing outreach support and training to science and mathematics public school teachers and students. At the university level, students will receive support in science and mathematics courses, become aware of career opportunities in mathematics, science and engineering, become involved in encouraging other students to pursue these fields, and will be prepared for advanced study for those careers if they choose. The Center will also target students underrepresented in science and math careers to ensure diversity in our universities, laboratories and workforce for the future.
