Matt Bauers, MTC Class of 2004, is a product of the public school system. He noticed the difference his freshman year at the University of Notre Dame.
“When I arrived at the Notre Dame, I realized that I was unprepared as a writer, and that many of my peers from private schools had benefited from the advantages of advanced-level writing classes in high school.” This informed his decision to be a teacher.
Matt teaches English at Gentry High School in Indianola. Last year he coached football. This year he is starting a chess club along with first-year Elizabeth Savage.
Teaching runs in the Bauers family. Matt’s mom is a teacher, and Matt’s twin brother Dan is also serving in the Teacher Corps.
