MTC Releases Its First Annual Report

The Mississippi Teacher Corps has released its annual report. “This is the first annual report that Teacher Corps has done,” said Ben Guest, the Program Manager. “It's not something that is required, and it seems we're always busy with something else. But looking at Whitney Webb's annual report for the Mississippi Teacher Fellowship Program inspired me to do a report for Teacher Corps. From now on each year we will release an annual report.”

The annual report includes chapters on recruitment and retention, budget, evaluations, accomplishments, and recommendations for next year. “Matt Ginn, our graduate assistant, was a big help in putting this together.”

The annual report was presented to Dr. Andy Mullins and Mr. Germain McConnell , the co-directors of the Mississippi Teacher Corps, on Wednesday, November 10 th , 2004 . To read a copy of the annual report please click here.

The Mississippi Teacher Corps is a two-year program that recruits recent college graduates to teach in critical-shortage areas in the Mississippi Delta, in exchange for a full scholarship for a masters' degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Mississippi . The program was founded in 1989 by Amy Gutman, a Harvard University graduate and Dr. Andy Mullins , current Special Assistant to the Chancellor of Ole Miss. Since 1989 more than 300 participants, reaching an estimated 4,500 students, have taught in critical-needs school districts as part of the Mississippi Teacher Corps.
