Another summer of training and teaching is complete for the Mississippi Teacher Corps.  “Our last day of summer school was July 20th,” said Mr. Ben Guest, the Program Manager of the Mississippi Teacher Corps.  “The average student increase, for all classes, from the pre-test to the post-test was 161% for the July MTC Summer School.” A variety of courses were offered, including Biology, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, English I, and Middle School English.

Rio Jeffries, a student from the MTC 2006 Summer School stopped by in June.  “The enrichment class I took last year was great,” said Rio.  “My ACT score improved from a 19 to a 23.  I will be starting at Ole Miss in the fall.” Watch a clip of Rio's visit with his former enrichment teacher, Jake Roth MTC Class of 2005, here:

 

The last day of training for the first-year MTC participants was July 21st.  “This has been the most comprehensive training we have ever had,” said Dr. Germain McConnell, the Co-Director of the Teacher Corps.  “A lot of credit goes to Dr. Ann Monroe.  This is Ann’s third year working with the program, and she was basically in charge of the entire summer.”

The end-of-summer social was held at the Downtown Grill, where a good time was had by all.  “I’ve been very impressed with this group,” said Dr. Andy Mullins, the Co-Director of Teacher Corps.
