Why did you decide to do the MTC Summer Internship?
____The short answer behind my decision can be summed up in a few bulleted points:
- I want to teach;
- I want to help young people; and
- I want to live and work in a rural, poor setting.
I see the Internship as an excellent opportunity to help a program that seems to be making change in desperate communities, and also to "scout out" the South as a setting to possibly fulfill those three bulleted items. I'm very intrigued by the MTC, and I look forward to applying for it myself after I graduate from St. John's in 2010.
What are my goals for the summer?
____Another bulleted list will do nicely:
- Help the MTC;
- Get a good picture of the South;
- Learn about inequity in schools;
- See for myself the critical issues in secondary school education; and
- Write a reflective essay for others to gain some kind of insight about the MTC and Mississippi.
