Dr. Andy Mullins
Dr. Andy Mullins is the co-director and co-founder of the Mississippi Teacher Corps. While working at
the State Department of Education Dr. Mullins created
the program with Amy Gutman in 1989 to address the teacher
shortage in the Mississippi Delta. "We modeled
the program after the Peace Corps, in which we could
draw people from all over the U.S. to come to Mississippi
to teach," said Dr. Mullins.
Dr. Mullins is currently the Executive Assistant to
the Chancellor at the University of Mississippi. He
meets with all Teacher Corps participants during the
summer, and leads several workshops and discussions
during the training. He teaches all of the Teacher Corps
participants in his spring course "Innovations in
Education" and in his fall course "The Effective Leader."
Dr. Mullins graduated from Millsaps College with a
BA in History. He has a M.ED in History from Mississippi
College and a PhD in Higher Education Administration
from The University of Mississippi. Dr. Mullins has
served as Special Assistant to three State Superintendents
and two governors. He began his career in education
as a history teacher and tennis and football coach at
St. Andrews High School in Jackson, MS. |
