Ben Guest is the current Program Manager of the Mississippi
Teacher Corps and a former participant in the program
with the Class of 2000. Ben taught English at Simmons
High School in Hollandale, MS. He also served as the
assistant coach for both Boys and Girls basketball,
and won a state championship with the boys' team.
Ben grew up in Waitsfield, Vermont and Baltimore, Maryland.
He graduated from Amherst College in May of 1997 with
a BA in English. He served in the Peace Corps from
October, 1997 to December, 1999 where he taught English
as a Second Language in Namibia, a country in Southern
Africa.
After traveling through Europe for several months Ben
returned to the states and joined the Mississippi Teacher
Corps in June of 2000. He taught and coached at Simmons
High School for two years. He spent a third year teaching
at McLaurin Attendance Center in Star, MS where he served
as the head coach for the boys' Varsity, Junior Varsity,
and Junior High Basketball teams. He also served as
the head coach for girls' varsity and junior varsity
track.
Ben was hired as Program Manager of the Mississippi
Teacher Corps in June of 2003. "I took this job,"
he said, "because I believe that teaching is a
noble profession, and I believe that the Teacher Corps
is a noble organization. I love this program and what
it stands for."
Ben is currently working on a Ph.D in Educational Leadership. |
