Integrated Lessons
This is an interesting category for it has such a broad uses. I found that when I put another subject into math, it helped catch the student’s attention especially if the student was already interested in the other subject. Throughout the year I would mix computer technology, English writing assignments, and art into activities and topics covered by Geometry or Calculus. I found that drawing was a uniquely close to Geometry and I used this to my advantage whenever possible. I also tried to incorporate use of either computers or calculators whenever possible. In Geometry we are currently working on a model house project which involves drawing architectural designs for a house, building the house to scale and furnishing the house with scale furniture.I measured success in this area by how much effort the students put into the lesson or activity. For the student work on drawing, I was looking for an effort to maintain neatness while being precise.
The following are scans of an integrated activity with architectural design. The students are trained to use compasses to accomplish various geometric solutions.
