COURSEWORK

This page lists courses and coursework I completed toward a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Mississippi (May 2006). Assignments are located under the courses for which they were completed.

Summer 2004: (9 hours) FOUNDATIONS OF SECONDARY EDUCATION, CLASSROOM PRACTICES, and MULTICULTURAL FIELD EXPERIENCES (included one month of student teaching)

Classroom Management - Presentation prepared at the close of our initial summer training detailing my ideas regarding classroom management then. Teaching seventh grade for two years led me to develop some different ideas about effective classroom management. Nevertheless, this plan was an excellent starting point, and more or less what I followed throughout the two years.

Fall 2004: (6 hours) EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND COMMUNITY SERVICE and ADVANCED METHODS OF TEACHING ENGLISH

The final exam was a cumulative assessment of the material covered in Methods.

Success Story - A minor success I experienced with one of my more problematic students in my first semester teaching. After a tumultuous first few months during which I felt no success whatsoever, this incident caught me by surprise. It fostered the realization that I might be successful in small ways when least expected, and that I should persevere.

Spring 2005: (6 hours) EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY and INNOVATIONS IN EDUCATION

Newsletter- Online school team newsletter for third grading period, 2005.

Savage Inequalities - My reaction to the book by Jonathan Kozol.

Young Central School District - Final project for Innovations in Education. Assignment: design your own school district, given a $1 million operating budget.

Summer 2005: (6 hours) EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH and THE LEGAL CONTEXT OF EDUCATION

Fall 2005: (6 hours) THE EFFECTIVE EDUCATIONAL LEADER
