Campus Management Status Report ~ 01-09-2002
Overview
- Thurlow, Stribling and Burkhard are in Germany
participating in CM 4.64 training. They will return
the week of 1/21. Customer testing will continue for
two more weeks. Representatives from Central Michigan
University will come to Oxford to test with the UM team.
- Larry Sparks has agreed to serve as a facilitator
in realizing business improvements in the areas of Student
Accounting and Financial Aid. Larry will provide leadership
and guidance in analyzing existing and future business scenarios
and in proposing/implementing improvements. Immediate objectives are
establishing overall goals and strategies.
Next week, Sparks, Hale, Gates and Harrington will participate in a
video conference call with Joachim Plumbaum and
a colleague who is very familiar with ASAP
to discuss how to best apply the ASAP methodology to Campus
Management.
- We have begun informal in-house training sessions
to refresh the skill sets of the CM technical staff.
- The first CM deliverable, a web view of the Academic
Structure, is on target. See the team reports for
more information.
- A brainstorming session to generate scheduling requirements
will be held Monday, 1/14, from 3-5 in the Lyceum Boardroom.

Academic Structure

- Continuing to work with units on template for Academic Program.

Brenda has reviewed an additional 3 months of 2001
production logs (September, October, November).
IR has identified 90 to 95% of IR programs and
entered data into spreadsheet to be merged with
IT information.

Web / Interfaces

WebFocus was successfully installed on the secure server. We now have a working prototype for the display of academic programs on the web. The initial prototype for the undgradate admissions application was done, and it is now being modified based on changes suggested in the admissions subgroup meeting. We are waiting on a code release that would allow Objectstar to communicate with Sigma to facilitate arena fee calculations.

We are still waiting on Sigma to deliver the java daemon that will send/accept XML requests between the mainframe and the financial aid system. This is needed for us to begin testing this interface before implementation of ProSam in Februrary.
- New Issues
- The Perl XML module that was being used for Sigma to Mainframe communication was not sufficient for formatting the XML to Sigma's specifications. A new module was installed to provide the additional functionality needed.

- Request graphics from publications for the display of academic programs on the web.
- Rewrite Perl program to generate the XML response from the Mainframe to Sigma. [completed 1/11]

- Test Sigma's java daemon for communicating with the mainframe.
- Finish modifications to on-line undergraduate admissions application, and request graphics from publications for the application.
- Go-live with the upgraded WebFocus the week of Jan. 21.

The desktop repalcement order was finalized and submitted on Dec. 19. The PO was not processed until after the Holiday break so we do not currently have a ship date.
The hardware for the TouchNet payment gateway has been received and is being installed.
The operating system on the Campus Management sandbox will be upgraded on Friday/Saturday, Janurary 11/12. The system will be unavailable during this time.
Work continues on defining authorizations, adjusting the environment, and trying to keep all of the latest code releases on the sandbox.
The development platform (DEV) in the production landscape has been upgraded to latest CM code releases as of Jan. 4. Normal patch upgrades were completed at the same time. This process will be completed on the quality platform (QAS) Jan 11 and on the production platform (PRD) Feb 4.
Creating training accounts so instruction can take place regarding the CM data loads.

There is a scheduling conflict related to the application of patches on PRD and the CM transports needed from DEV for data loads. Because the patch cycle has started on the prodcution landscape these transports can not be moved until after Feb 2.
